Assume that you have a print of your picture. Either printed at home or professionally.
Many companies will print pictures sent by email or drop in memory stick.

Card – I prefer white but …..
Black and white pictures look ok with black mount.
Colour pictures on coloured card can look odd.
Mount size - any will do but try to keep all same size, looks better.
When I started always used A3, now use 20”x16”
National and International competitions require 20”x16”
We think that they now specify 500mm x 400mm (50x40cm)
Tenbury Show require maximum 10”x8” including mount.
Surface – mounting tissue !!!
spray mount / photo mount easier
Border width is personal, as is the setting out on the board
Sharp knife. I use scalpel. Stanley knife.
Straight edge. Long one and shorter one. Don’t use aluminium or plastic straight edge.
Cutting mat useful but cardboard will do (mind you don’t cut through !)
Mount cutter. Lots of choice but can be expensive.
Straight cut with sharp knife will do but still need care at corners.
Picture size – anything you want.
Standard paper sizes may determine but if cropped then need to think
Not necessary to have rectangle !
Ready made mounts easier still - mainly on line. Also cut outs are standard sizes; If picture cropped then will need to cut to suit.
